BUG LINE TRAIL (WAUKESHA COUNTY PARKS)
This is a 14 mile surfaced trail that bisects Sussex. It starts in Menomonee
Falls, goes through Lannon, Lisbon, Sussex, and ends in Merton. In 1890, this
trail was built by Milwaukee, Menomonee Falls, and Western Railroad. The
railroad connected Sussex and Menomonee Falls to Milwaukee. In the next few
years, the railroad was extended west from Sussex Mills to Merton and North
Lake. It would become part of the Milwaukee Road Railroad, but from its very
beginning, it was called, "Bug Line". The Milwaukee Road abandoned the property
in 1978, and it was purchased by the Waukesha County Parks System. Shortly
thereafter, the "Bug Line" became a walking trail. The trail is complete from
Menomonee Falls to Merton, except for a small stretch between Waukesha Ave. and
Silver Spring Dr.
